Currently based in Albuquerque New Mexico Victoria Velasquez has always been excited about experimenting with every aspect of food which is easily show with her innovative creations. Bold, vibrant and just outright fun this sizzling girl from New Mexico knows how to bring the heat with her southwestern influenced and modern infused dishes.
Family Traditions:
She has spent her entire life around food in some form. Growing up in OKC as a young child gave her a chance to be influenced by her grandparents desire for family and food, such as Sunday family dinners and traditional recipes passed down from generations of home cooks who had to ration but knew you didnt have to sacrifice flavor to do so.
Military Lessons:
Her grandfather served in the Military as a cook He was the main cook in the household where she was raised by her grandparents. He taught her some kitchen basics as well as how to respect the kitchen just as you would the military.
The little girl with big dreams:
Victoria has always had a sense of luxury since she can remember "I use to sit my dolls at my grandmothers elegantly decorated dinning table with gold silverware and crystal glasses and I made sure they were all dressed up, I would pour Kool-Aid in the wine glasses while my Ramen Noodles where soaking up my lemon and butter sauce I was like 6 or 7 I think. I laugh so much now thinking back of me serving what at the time I thought to be my high-end pasta dish to my dolls, I would sit so proper and hold such an in-depth convo about how fancy we all were. Nothing but pure Laughter, I always felt destined for big things at least my dreams said so"!
Culinary Vision:
Victoria's culinary vision is diffidently going to grab your attention "I want to show people how to be sassy; fearless in your face with food feed the masses without busting your wallet but do it in a very luxurious way".
Let's Try Cooking:
In 2003 Victoria opened a Mortgage Brokerage with great success at such an early age. With her love for real estate she decided in 2004 to obtain her real estate license, even then she was always drawn to the kitchen making sure that each client focused on the kitchen of their potential new home. She knew she loved what she did but was frank enough to know she wanted more way more she wanted food! One day she said "There's got to be more to life than this and I want it"!
Following her Heart:
After being stuck head-on in an auto accident Victoria recalls "I was out of commission for quite some time, gosh 2 months of lying in bed was like a prison sentence I woke up one day angry I wasnt doing what I wanted it was time for a change I said I am getting up getting dressed and getting a cooking segment today, well I got it the following". She has always had great success with everything she encounters hitting New Mexicos culinary world like a title wave. She currently is the host (Cook) on Taste of New Mexico which air's every Monday at 11am on KOBTV NBC which is a cooking segment featured on Good Day New Mexico. She is a talented TV personality and the show has a huge response in addition to this her segment has been extremely successful in acquiring Major sponsorships from Viking, Ferguson's, RMS, and a host of other companies.. As a result of her segment not only have ratings increased but the network (KOBTV) and her personal website has been overwhelmed with calls and emails requesting cook books, live appearance's as well as photo opportunities. When asked how she feels about this great accomplishment in such a short timeframe she says "I just knew I had to follow my heart".
She seriously cares:
Volunteering her time to feed those who are in need is something she has been doing since she was 6yrs. Old. I cant express the feeling you have when you feed someone just knowing you brought a smile to someone its really one of the best feelings in the world. She loves going to the soup kitchen at Noon Day Ministries on Fridays to help prep and cook for some 400 people in need.
Influences, Desires and Hobbies:
Biggest influence is her life would be her big brother Michael jr.Velasquez "He is totally my best friend he is the most amazing big brother anyone could ever have, I look up to him so much. He believes in me and has always pushed me to go after my dreams".
She has two dogs, one cat and her hobbies consist of cooking, fashion, painting, decorating, fishing and anything that involves laughter.
Its Victoria's desire to help individuals and families to achieve success and personal growth and in doing so try to get back to traditional values of a family sitting down for conversation while enjoying a well balanced meal.
